Consumer Network Storage Market Analysis

NAS Devices and Other Alternatives to USB Hard Drives and Online Data Storage

While the choice of products for consumer network storage has grown significantly over the past couple of years, demand hasn’t met expectations due to the continued use of alternatives such as USB hard drives and writeable DVDs. ABI Research believes that this will change as consumers become more educated about the products and see the need to back up their growing digital media collections across multiple devices, and the price difference between network storage and USB hard drives continues to shrink.

This report examines the current state of the consumer network storage market. It looks at the evolution of the market from a time when network attached storage products for the home were available for $1000, to today’s market full of new product form factors at reasonable prices. Products range from high-powered NAS devices to network bridges or chassis products that require consumers to install their own hard drives, providing greater flexibility. Each of these devices are forecasted, as well as the silicon that powers them. Regional analysis of consumer network storage is also included, as the report analyzes and forecasts the adoption of these products across the world’s major regions. In addition to network storage, alternatives such as USB and Flash drives are analyzed and forecasted, and the study evaluates online storage as a long-term alternative to network storage.
