Television viewing has undergone a transformation over the past several decades. From being able to view just a few channels, today’s consumer has access to a wide range of content. The traditional mode of television viewing was restricted to channels received free to air; however the launch of cable and satellite services completely changed the landscape on which the entertainment industry thrives. A more recent shift in TV viewing has been from analog to digital, a transformation that is taking place globally. The entries of cable, satellite, and telcos into the entertainment business have enabled viewers to choose the type of service and content they want to receive. These providers are seeing increasing popularity and networks broadcasting “free channels” to the consumer have been fading away. However, to stay competitive, these traditional broadcast networks implemented digital technology and are now delivering digital content through aerial broadcasts to an antenna.
