Cisco has just announced that it will resell Cognio's Spectrum Expert, a Wi-Fi spectrum analysis and monitoring tool, along with its own Wireless Control System (WCS). What is particularly interesting is the admission by Alan Cohen, Cisco's Director of Mobility Marketing, that his systems engineers claim that as much as 50% of the problems associated with Wi-Fi are caused by interference unrelated to the actual network. With its 55% market share dominance in access points, Cisco's move to resell Spectrum Expert legitimizes this type of solution much the same way that Cisco's purchase of Airespace legitimized the use of lightweight access points.
