A new white paper from ABI Research, available for free download on the company’s website, demonstrates how new technologies are emerging to support real-time dispatch fleet operations. As the technology and applications develop, more specialized functionality is being produced to serve the needs of particular fleet verticals. The whitepaper examines the customers for real-time dispatch applications in multiple vertical segments (local delivery and service fleets, utility companies, taxis, emergency service vehicles, and some of the municipality fleet) which represent over 20% of the whole commercial telematics market. ”The market for commercial telematics solutions was founded on basic location tracking for high-value truck deliveries,” says principal analyst David Alexander. “With the advent of new navigation and route optimization technology, the opportunity to develop business advantages is now available to fleets that depend on real-time dispatch capability.” The commercial telematics market took a significant upswing in 2007, and, despite the global economic downturn, ABI Research believes that it will continue along this path with communication costs going down, coverage becoming more widespread, and technological advancements making the hardware more affordable. Total worldwide subscribers are forecast to grow from 6.6 million in 2007 to 36.9 million by 2013. And, says Alexander, real-time dispatch is an area that will make a major contribution to that growth. ”Having accurate knowledge of the location of available vehicles is of great value to businesses that need to make deliveries or service calls and keep customers happy with accurate time estimates,” adds Alexander. “Being able to accomplish this and also minimize the overall number of miles traveled has a lot of business value. We believe that the current challenging economic environment will support an investment in technology that pays for itself in a matter of months.” Download the white paper here: “Real-Time Fleet and Cargo Dispatch Markets”.
